A handy guide to Joah foundation product alternatives
Are you looking to discover a possible swap out or replacement product because the Joah foundation appears to be discontinued? Then you’ve stumbled across the right article. Using the SKINSKOOL ingredient-list similarity tracker we’re digging into which other foundation products should be on your radar if you’re interested in Joah foundation.
What is Joah Beauty?
Joah is a Kbeauty brand that means “I like it” in Korean. They pride themselves on being high quality without high price tags and a quick scroll through their webshop reveals that most of the products do have drugstore level pricing. Looks like their claim of low prices does check out.
What is Joah foundation known for?
The official product name of the Joah foundation everyone is talking about is the Truly Yours Foundation Drop. It comes in 12 shades. The brand claims for the product are that the Truly Yours foundation is lightweight with buildable coverage, Hydrating, Brightening and Smoothing. Beyond what the brand claims, it does seem noticeable how many good reviews this product has. Seriously glowing reviews. No wonder people are so upset that the product has been discontinued. "Great coverage", "perfect foundation", "please bring this back", are just some of the comments we’ve read. In one of the many glowing reviews for the product, someone even calls it out as a dupe for the much more expensive La Mer foundation. Interesting.
What are the ingredients in Joah foundation?
Water (Aqua), Cyclopentasiloxane, PEG-10 Dimethicone, Dimethicone, Glycerin, Methyl Methacrylate Crosspolymer, Phenyl Trimethicone, Sodium Chloride, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Phenoxyethanol, Aluminum Hydroxide, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate, Enteromorpha Compress Extract, Gelidium Cartilagineum Extract, Laminaria Japonica Extract, Spirulina Platensis Extract, Undaria Pinnatifida Extract, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499)
The first ingredient after water is cyclopentasiloxane which is a silicone that likely gives this foundation its silky finish along with dimethicone. Glycerin is also present in the formula which acts as a skin identical ingredient that helps with hydration. We also see jojoba oil in the ingredient list which is an emollient and some additional algae extracts. All of these ingredients likely are the basis for the brand’s skin benefiting claims.
Help! The Joah foundation is discontinued, what else should I use?
This is a very common conundrum beauty lovers find themselves in. Your most favourite holy grail product is being discontinued, what to do now?!
Well, we know what we would do if we were trying to find a swap out for a discontinued product. We’d start our search with the SKINSKOOL ingredient-list similarity tracker. It will show you, on an ingredient list basis, what other products contain similar ingredients to those in the target product. Furthermore, we at SKINSKOOL often go an extra step and pull a report from the backend database that locates products with specific claims ingredients in their INCI lists. For the Joah foundation, we’re looking for a foundation product that contains cyclopentasiloxane, dimethicone, glycerin, jojoba oil and brown algae extracts.
Keep in mind that while the products we discovered contain some of these main ingredients from Joah foundation, we don’t know the ingredient concentrations or the formulation processes so to really test how they perform, you will have to test them in real life. We’re giving you an excellent shortlist from which to start.
So what foundations in our database have cyclopentasiloxane, dimethicone, glycerin, jojoba oil and brown algae extracts in their ingredient list?
Turns out, only the Joah foundation!
So we broadened the search, let’s allow any colour algae extract in the ingredient list.
We found 1 foundation that satisfied those requirements.
The Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation. It reads as quite a special formula “The coveted Aqua Foundation, known for giving skin the same youthful glow you experience right after a facial, is redesigned for increased coverage, radiance, hydration and longevity. Formulated with our signature Gloss Film Powder, the light-diffusing minerals brighten and minimize pores, while resisting sweat and oiliness. This breathable serum foundation contains weightless skin-conditioning emollients that improve the hydration and health of skin for a flawless and comfortable complexion all day.”
The ingredient list is quite a bit longer.

But ok we want even more options. So let’s take away the requirement for algae extracts and just look for a foundation that contains cyclopentasiloxane, dimethicone, glycerin and jojoba oil.
We found one result. The Kevyn Aucoin Etherealist Skin Illuminating Foundation.
But we want MORE! Ok the final and last variation of our database search – let’s find a foundation that contains cyclopentasiloxane, dimethicone, glycerin, and algae extracts (but no jojoba oil).
This variation of the search generated the longest list of products so far. Yes!
